Arriving at the city we will be transferred from the airport “Padre Jose Aldamis” directly at the river port “Capitania” to board a motorized boat that would take us upriver in a relaxing trip for the Madre de Dios River towards Colorado Clay Lick.
DAY 1: Puerto Maldonado – Colorado Clay Lick
Arriving at the city we will be transferred from the airport “Padre Jose Aldamis” directly at the river port “Capitania” to board a motorized boat that would take us upriver in a relaxing trip for the Madre de Dios River towards Colorado Clay Lick.
During this trip we will observe many wild animals, including birds such as herons, kingfishers, shansho (prehistoric bird), among others. On the banks of the river we can see the capibara or capybara (the world’s largest rodent), añuje (rodent), caimans, taricayas (turtles), etc.
We will have breakfast and lunch on the way, because the boat ride will last approximately 8 hours to reach the Colorado clay lick where we set up our camp for dinner and spend the first night.
DAY 2: Colorado Clay Lick
Very early we will walk for 25 minutes approximately to the Colorado clay lick where we will see the arrival of the macaws and small parrot knows as Chirricles among others, they come to the clay lick where they eat clay which allows them to digest during the day because these eat fruits and herbs with toxins and they need these minerals for digesting. After the spectacle we will return to our camp site for breakfast, relaxing and exploring the area.
After lunch we will enjoy a walk along the trails (trochas) where will know ancestral medicinal plants, timber trees, exotic plants and different kinds of birds, mammals, reptiles and insects.
Returning awaits our camp to rest and after dinner we can go to the river in search of alligators, after this memorable experience will return to our camp site for dinner and spend the second night.
DAY 3: “Infierno” Native Community – “Tres Chimbadas” Lake – Puerto Maldonado City
After breakfast we will board the motor boat downstream to the Community of “Infierno” inhabited by natives of the Essejas ethnicity who still retain their customs and ancestral experiences, they make interesting crafts and are visited by tourists.
This population has many myths and legends; currently they use natural medicine and quackery and include medicinal plants such as ayahuasca which is used for spiritual sessions and baths. It has an Ethno Botanic place and nearby there is a small lake called “Tres Chimbadas” where families of otters live, many species of fish and variety of birds are observed as well; we will go there after lunch where we will fish and see a variety of fish such as piranhas, carachamas, catfish and other species of the place. Then return by boat to the city of Puerto Maldonado.
