High expedition “Piedras River”

DAY 1: Puerto Maldonado – “Piedras River”

Arriving at the city we will be transferred from the airport “Padre Jose Aldamis” directly at the river port “Capitania” to board a motorized boat where we will refresh with a typical drink of the area and start our wonderful trip along the river Madre de Dios. During the trip we can see the different tributaries as the Piedras and Pariamanu rivers.

Also we will see different species of birds such as herons, cormorants, wild turkey, shanshos, vultures, kingfishers, eagles, caracaras, etc; also we see some alligators, turtles and ronsocos (the world’s largest rodent) sunbathing on the riverbank.
The lunch will be on board to our transport and at sunset we will arrive to the beaches of the Pariamanu River. There will rest and we set up our tents. After dinner we go by boat in search of caiman found along the riverbank, then we return to our camp site with some snags for our campfire where our guide will tell us stories about the mysteries of the jungle and then we will go to sleep in our comfortable tents.

DAY 2: Macaw Clay Lick

In the morning before breakfast we will go to the macaw clay lick located to 10 minutes from our camp site. In the clay lick we will see an unforgettable show of multicolored macaws and parrots eating clay wall of the river (the rich clay mineral is part of the diet of these animals).

Then we return to our camp site for breakfast and get ready to start a walk in search of the various timber trees and medicinal plants in the Amazon, will also visit the mammals clay lick where you can see animals eating clay.

Finally we board our boat back towards the parrot’s clay lick where we set up our tents, then will gather dry sticks for our campfire on the Madre de Dios riverbank, this campground has rest rooms and showers where we freshen up and then have a night walk and spend the night in our comfortable tents.

DAY 3: Parrots Clay Lick – Puerto Maldonado City

Very early in the morning we will go to watch a small Parrots clay lick, an unforgettable experience. After breakfast we will disassemble our tents and will return to the city of Puerto Maldonado.
